Located on the southern edge of Mehrangarh Fort, Shri Chamunda Mata Mandir is one of the most sacred and revered temples in Jodhpur. The temple is dedicated to Chamunda Devi, a fierce form of Goddess Durga. Locals consider her as the Kuldevi of the Rathore clan.
The temple not only holds spiritual significance but is also known for protecting the royal family and guarding the city. It offers a spectacular view of the Blue City of Jodhpur, and the serene atmosphere of the temple attracts devotees and tourists.
The temple was established in 1460 AD by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur and Mehrangarh Fort. According to legend, he brought the idol of Chamunda Mata from his old capital Mandore to protect the new city.
Since then, Chamunda Devi is worshipped as the protector of Jodhpur. Thousands of devotees visit the temple during Navratri.
