Wankal Mata Temple, located on Viratra Hill in Chohtan Tehsil of Barmer district, is a famous Shakti Sthal of Rajasthan. According to legend, King Vikramaditya of Ujjain prayed to bring Hinglaj Mata with him. The idol of the mother started walking with him, but when the king looked back, the idol stopped on Viratra Hill and refused to move forward. The temple of the mother was established here, and due to the crooked neck of the idol, she came to be known as “Vankal Mata”. This place is also considered special for devotees who cannot visit Hinglaj Dham in Pakistan.
